The Initial Visit

Your first visit to a new chiropractor is the most important. A correct diagnosis identifying a condition’s true cause ultimately determines the success of any therapies used to combat it.

It is for this reason that we will take our time to review your history of symptoms, whether it be pain, weakness, stiffness, numbness, etc. to guide a focused physical exam of the affected or related areas to determine:

  1. Improper movement of a joint (pain during certain movements or athletic activities).
  2. Weakness, tightness or improper movement of surrounding muscles.
  3. Laxity (looseness), torn, or build-up scar-tissue of ligaments surrounding the joints.
  4. Irritation or entrapment of nerves along their course causing nerve pain (burning, tingling, numbness, etc.)
  5. Joint pain due to inflammation or arthritic conditions.
  6. Improper posture or biomechanics of an otherwise healthy worker or athlete.

After the physical and history exams the doctor will be able to communicate a prognosis including the typical time to recovery as well as the frequency and duration of the treatment needed. You will then be booked for your first treatment session. If you feel that you require a treatment the day of your initial visit please notify the doctor and book a treatment session after the initial hour.

In some cases, more testing or imaging may be indicated to adequately determine a diagnosis and treatment may have to be postponed until such is obtained. It is therefore suggested that, if available, patients bring all previous recent test/imaging reports in relation to their condition upon their first visit.

PLEASE NOTE: Initial visits are 1 hour on average, please arrive 15 minutes prior to this appointment to fill out our clinic forms, OR download our intake forms here.
