Custom Orthotics and Footwear

The way you walk, run, ski, etc. are all influenced by how your feet react to the ground in any given situation. For some individuals, the natural mechanics that make a foot stable in certain situations while flexible in another may become out of sync due to a variety of reasons.

Here is a short video Dr. Robert Joseph DPM, PhD discusses the use of orthotics and explains how to "break them in" correctly:

Lower limb dysfunction may be caused by: Muscular weaknesses or imbalances around the hip and core, the thigh, or the lower leg and foot; A Leg length inequality or other structural abnormality; Stiffness of looseness of the foot and ankle joints and ligaments (e.g. flat feet).

With lower limb dysfunction the bad mechanics are repeated over and over and with time the effects can be manifested as:Orthotics - Custom Footwear

      Before prescribing a pair orthotics
you must have your particular lower limb dysfunction diagnosed and address all issues from your hips to your toes with exercise and manual therapies. In some cases patients can also greatly benefit from the use of custom foot orthotics (individually moulded shoe insets) that limit excessive foot range of motion and give the foot a sense of feedback so it may begin to prevent excessive foot motion through reflexive muscle contraction.

Custom Orthotic Footwear offers a variety of footwear products such as sandals, hiking boots, running shoes, etc. that come with your specific orthotic foot mould manufactured into the footwear product for even extra comfort and convenience with use. Take a minute to view the orthotic Group’s online catalogue or visit the clinic for a brochure and to view samples.
PLEASE NOTE: Custom orthotics are only available after initial assessment and recommendation from the doctor.
